Local Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing Law

New York continues to suffer with high levels of residential segregation, yet the City has not taken serious steps to affirmatively further fair housing. Intro 685 would have the City acknowledge its problems in this area, regularly report on their scope, and commit the City to make sure both that it tried to overcome segregation through its policies and programs, and that it did not actually perpetuate segregation in its policies and programs.

The bill would also mobilize the City's Department of Buildings to incorporate accessibility inspection into all inspections, notify both property owners and the City's Human Rights Commission, and create a pubic database of non-compliant buildings
